The Floating Cabin, AKA the Floatel room

What could be better than a room with a sea view? A hotel room that’s actually floating ON the sea.

And that’s exactly what you can get at Ty Hotel, Milford Waterfront in Milford Haven – the most quirky place to stay in Pembrokeshire!

We initially were set on staying in Tenby but the prices for an end of July/early August stay were way out of budget, so we looked for alternative nearby towns and stumbled across this stunning location.

Milford Haven has a long maritime industry history from fishing to ship building, thanks to its large natural harbour, in fact, Milford Haven’s harbour is one of the deepest in the world.

The city has seen huge renovations and development in recent years and a significant part of that is the waterfront area where you’ll find a range of pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops with waterfront views.

Part of the waterfront area is the Ty Hotel where you’ll find modern, sophisticated rooms, many with waterfront views. But just a bit further along the harbour wall, towards the sea, there are four floating cabins, or floatel rooms – because they are literally a hotel room but floating on the water!

You have all the exact same amenities as a hotel room, the floating cabins have a large comfy double bed, satellite tv, wifi, tea and coffee facilities, a fridge, ensuite bathroom with a large walk-in shower, plus a beautiful outdoor deck area with seating for you to enjoy the view from your floating hotel room!

The balcony/floating deck was definitely our favourite part of the floating cabins in Milford Haven, we spent our evenings there with some drinks and listening to music, watching the sunset.

To book the floating cabins, click here, then scroll down to ‘Room Type’ and select ‘Floating Cabin’.

If you’re looking for dog friendly places to stay in Pembrokeshire, you’re also in luck because they have a dog friendly floating cabin too!

All the cabins are anchored to the walkway around the dock and are completely safe!

You can check in as normal at the Ty Hotel where they will give you your cabin key and the passcode to get into the dock gates. There’s also plenty of free parking available!

If you’re looking for Pembrokeshire places to stay with a little something extra, this has to be the place for you. It was such a fun experience but also really comfortable too, with all the facilities you’d have at a hotel. You’re also welcome to use the hotel amenities like the bar, restaurant and gym.
